Evansville Firefighters IAFF Local 357

IAFF Local 357 was chartered in 1937. Our Local represents 274 paid, professional Firefighters. We are a "Closed Agency Shop" which requires all Evansville Fire Department Firefighters to be a member, or pay a service fee if they choose not to be a member.

Our Union negotiated one of the first Fire Union collective bargaining contracts in the State of Indiana in the early 1970s. Several of our Union Officers are active in the Professional Firefighters Union of Indiana and the International Association of Fire Fighters.

Our Union Members and Union Officers work very hard to present our Fire Department and Union in a positive manner by using their off-duty time for community projects. We built and operate a mobile Survive-Alive House which helps teach children how to escape a fire in their home. In 2002, almost a hundred of our members built the first all Firefighter built Habitat for Humanity Home. The home was dedicated to the firefighters who lost their lives in the New York City terrorist attack on the World Trade Center.
